Stepping into... Canberra 2010

APPLICATIONS EXTENDED UNTIL FRIDAY 7TH MAY 2010

We are pleased to be able to offer a significant number of internship opportunities in Canberra in 2010. 

Stepping into… is a joint initiative of the Australian Network on Disability and the participating organisations.   Applicants are applying to the Stepping into… program, not directly to the participating organisations.  If applicable, please note your preferred organisation in your application. This is a unique opportunity to acquire experience in the Federal Government sector.

The participating organisations in Canberra for 2010 are:

  • Dept of Defence
  • Australian Taxation Office
  • Dept of the Prime Minister & Cabinet
  • Dept of Health & Ageing
  • Dept of Families, Housing, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs
  • Dept of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Students currently studying:

  • Public Policy & Research 
  • International Relations
  • Law 
  • Finance
  • Human Resources 
  • Statistics

or a combination of these disciplines are encouraged to apply.

 

Eligibility Criteria

1. Applicants must have a disability.  As this is a targeted program specifically for students with disability, applicants are required to provide any relevant disability information and any information regarding adjustments or modifications that may be required for the duration of the program;

2. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia (include a certified copy of your relevant Visa in your application). Please note that some employers will only accept students who are Australian citizens;

3. Applicants must be enrolled in the penultimate or final year of a relevant degree at a recognised Australian tertiary institution;

4. Applicants must not be on a leave of absence from their studies (e.g. deferred, working full time, etc);

5. Applicants must be committed and prepared to participate fully in the program and be available to attend a student briefing conducted by the Australian Network on Disability before starting the program.

6. Applications from students outside of the Canberra area are encouraged:

a. Applicants must be studying one of the above disciplines or a combination thereof;
b. Applicants must have family or friends living in Canberra who would be willing to act as support during the length of the internship (please note these internships may be longer than four weeks – full details will be available at the time of interview with the individual Department);
c. Applicants are responsible for their own accommodation arrangements, and must advise the Employers’ Network of these arrangements in the application letter.

7. Applications Close at 5pm AEST on Friday 30 April 2010.
