Inaugural National Conference Raising the Bar 2010

On 27 May 2010, AND held its first national conference and gala dinner at Doltone House Darling Island Wharf in Sydney.

The event was a great success, with over 160 delegates attending the conference, and 130 guests attending the dinner.  Two half day workshops were held either side of the main conference, which were also fully subscribed at 30 people each.

The event was Live Remote Captioned to ensure accessibility, which also allowed us to distribute text transcripts of the event afterwards.

City of Sydney Council was the conference’s major sponsor, with minor sponsorships secured from members McDonald’s Australia, Sparke Helmore and WorkFocus Australia.

Susan Scott Parker, CEO of the UK Employers Forum on Disability, was a special guest speaker, and the conference was MC’d by Sam Cawthorn, 2009’s Young Australian of the Year, an inspiring and motivational man with significant physical disabilities resulting from a car accident.
