Energy Safe Victoria
Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) is the independent technical regulator responsible for electricity, gas and pipeline safety in Victoria. A statutory authority, ESV also licence and register electricians, manage the Certificate of Electrical Safety program, conduct community safety campaigns, ensure electrical and gas products are approved and safe for use, and investigate gas and electrical incidents.
ESV's role is broad, covering the following areas:
- ESV approves industry safety cases and safety management schemes for the design, construction and maintenance of electricity, gas and pipeline networks across the state.
- ESV regulates safety standards and administers regulations covering gas and electrical appliances, installations and energy efficiency.
- ESV has a team of investigators who probe gas and electrical safety issues in homes and businesses across the state, and run community education campaigns alerting Victorians to potential dangers with energy and appliances.
- ESV’s annual advertising campaigns include industry campaigns: Never Work Live and Look Up and Live, and public campaigns about BBQ safety, electrical safety and carbon monoxide awareness in the home.
