Legal Aid NSW
Legal Aid NSW is an independent statutory body established under the Legal Aid Commission Act 1979 and is the largest legal aid agency in Australia, providing a range of legal services to socially and economically disadvantaged people. We help people to understand and protect their legal rights through advice, advocacy, representation and education, focussing on disadvantaged people and communities.
Legal Aid NSW is just one part of the much larger system of justice and therefore does not work in isolation. Government lawyers and private lawyers paid by Legal Aid NSW work together to represent people who qualify for legal aid. Community legal centres, the Aboriginal Legal Service and LawAccess NSW are our other main partners.
These strong partnerships help ensure that all people in New South Wales are equal before the law.
