Australian Red Cross: the power of humanity

Relief in times of crisis, care when it's needed most and commitment when others turn away. Red Cross is there for people in need, no matter who you are, no matter where you live.

We help tens of millions of people around the world each year and care for local communities in Australia and Asia Pacific.

With millions of volunteers worldwide and thousands of members, volunteers and supporters across Australia we can reach people and places like nobody else.

Relief in times of crisis

Whether it's a major natural disaster or a personal crisis in your own home, Red Cross is there to give immediate and practical help.

Reaching people in remote places around the world rapidly to provide shelter, food and medical help provides a lifeline. Reaching out to those cut off by flood waters and fire at home reassures and sustains.

Re-connecting families or finding out the fate of loved ones torn apart by war or disaster lets people get on with their lives. A hot meal for someone living rough means making a connection when it seems no one else is there to help.

We are among the first to arrive and last to leave when disaster strikes, and an important part of our local communities every day.

Care when it's needed most

Each day, hungry children, elderly people and the vulnerable are fed, listened to and provided for by Red Cross in our communities.

People need more than basic survival mechanisms, they need to be nurtured and emotionally supported. They need their dignity.

It can be as simple as a phone call a day to someone living alone or advice on how to budget when times are tight. In East Timor clean water and sanitation means a better future. For people living with HIV and AIDS in China and PNG, medical care and support means living with dignity. And for hungry Australian children, a good breakfast means doing better at school.

We care for local communities in Australia and Asia Pacific.

Commitment when others turn away

Red Cross is there for people in need, regardless of nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. We are impartial, neutral and independent.

Each day innocent people live with conflict and the indignity of discrimination. Each day Australians need blood to help battle cancer. Countless lives lost could be saved through first aid.

We are the keepers of the Geneva Conventions or the 'laws of war'; we talk to military, governments and militants alike.

We are guided by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to create, together, sustainable solutions with a new determination.

We train people in first aid, motivate the next generation to make their community a better place and with the help of half a million Australian blood donors, we save lives.

And we are committed to supporting our Red Cross partners in Asia Pacific, helping them build strength in their own communities. We are in it for the long haul.

Red Cross is there for people in need, no matter who you are, no matter where you live.
