Anne Cosentino's Stepping Into story
Sun 22 February 2015
Our member organisation, Department of Education and Communities (DEC) clearly perceives the benefits of employing skilled people with disability, thanks to their positive experience of our Stepping Into internship program.
Tony McCabe, Director of Planning and Delivery commented, “All three Stepping Into interns have been excellent. I have really enjoyed driving this program in the Asset Management Directorate and maybe we can expand to two participants in the next round.”
As part of our recent summer intake of the Stepping Into program, student Anne Cosentino undertook an eight-week graduate internship at DEC in Jan-Feb 2013. Anne is passionate about life-long learning, and is currently undertaking a Master of Education at UTS.
Her internship was in the Asset Management Directorate of DEC, which utilised her experience in account managing and her prior qualifications in Management and Business Administration.
Her supervisor, Greg Mott, Coordinator of Planning and Delivery said, “It was a very enjoyable and hopefully mutually beneficial experience.”
Anne acknowledged her supervisors for their commitment to diversity, and mentorship. “All team members…made me feel welcomed and valued… with a wealth of experience between them to tap into.”
Anne valued the opportunity to attend meetings and review projects with her manager, liaise on financial reports, and update management information.
Anne had no hesitation about recommending the Stepping Into program for other students with disability. “This has been a very valuable time to learn and experience the different organisational management processes and in building networks and escalating my confidence in pursuing my career,” she said. “I am most happy with the outcome.”
