Assistant Minister Prentice meeting with twelve AND members and the Business Council of Australia

Twelve Australian Network on Disability (AND) members and the Business Council of Australia (BCA)  today met with Assistant Minister for Disability Services Jane Prentice MP to provide their input into the new Disability Employment Services (DES) contract due in March 2018.

AND CEO Suzanne Colbert said, “Collectively, the 12 member organisations here today employ at least 420,000 Australians, so their commitment to employing people with disability has the potential to create significant change.”

AND members were keen to ensure the new, $800m a year, contract puts jobseekers with disability and employers at the heart.  They were frank in telling the Assistant Minister that the current system is letting them down but were able to shine a light on successes as well as highlight areas of future promise.

Ms Colbert said all employers attending reiterated their strong commitment to hire more people with disability.

Mrs Prentice said, “Today’s roundtable discussion was central to our focus of engaging with employers to consider how we can improve DES and promote the benefits of employing people with disability. I would like to thank the AND employers and the Business Council of Australia for sharing their views and ideas.”
