Attendees at the Sydney Member Induction lined up against a purple wall

One in five Australians experience some type of disability, so being able to proactively, effectively and confidently include this segment of the community, in all aspects of business, has never been more important.

We were pleased to see this reflected by our members at the first of our Member Induction series this Tuesday. The session was an opportunity for members to learn about the programs, services, guidance and training available to AND members, while leveraging AND’s unique network of businesses.

Tuesday’s session saw newly inducted contacts from McDonaldsMacquarie UniversityCity of Sydney, the New South Wales Department of Finance, Services and InnovationDeloitteWestpac and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) meet up and share the innovative access and inclusion practices taking place in their organisations. We were thrilled to hear of the success of several Disability Employment Networks (DENs) and Accessibility Action Plans (AAPs) that AND has helped developed within some of the organisations. We were also delighted to see a strong commitment to the recruitment of more people with disability from several organisations that have commenced their Disability Confident Recruiter journeys.

Members were also given the opportunity to learn more about the range of programs, services, guidance and training that puts them at the forefront of diversity practice, including recruitment reviewsdisability confidence trainingmental health awareness training, and our PACE Mentoring and Stepping Into internship programs for students and jobseekers with disability.

Members left the session invigorated, engaged and inspired to continue working to create disability confident organisations. As a take home activity, members were encouraged to complete our Access and Inclusion Index quick self-assessment, to give them a snapshot of their organisation’s disability confidence, and gain an understanding of how the Access and Inclusion Index can help them achieve their goals.

Our Member Induction sessions will be held quarterly in Sydney, and all members, new and old, are welcome to attend. If you would like to attend our next session on Tuesday the 10th of October, please contact info@and.org.au to register your interest.
