2017 Access and Inclusion Index now open

Do you want to know how your organisation is travelling on its access and inclusion journey? The Australian Network on Disability (AND)’s, 2017/2018 Access and Inclusion Index, which is now open to members, will support you to gain insights into your strengths and maturity.

This easy-to-use, whole of organisation tool provides a roadmap for year on year progress. It is designed to help you understand, assess, benchmark and improve your organisations disability confidence.

Bronwyn Scott, Disability Employment Leader, at HealthShare New South Wales, took part in last year’s Index. She says that participating in the Index has led to an increase in candidates with disability applying for roles.

“The Index gave me a framework in which to document achievements and highlight things that we said we’d do but hadn’t managed to action, said Bronwyn. “For example, we committed to including information about adjustments to the recruitment process in all our job advertisements. Since actioning this, we have had an increase in calls from people with disability interested to apply.”

Chief Executive of AND, Suzanne Colbert AM, says that the Index is an invaluable tool for providing Australian businesses with a roadmap for improvement.

“Year on year we’d like to see businesses make more progress to systematically provide both employment and customer service to people with disability,” said AND’s Chief Executive Officer, Suzanne Colbert AM.

There are three tools available.

  • A quick 10 question self-assessment tool is available to all organisations at no cost. Simply answer 10 questions to get a snapshot of your current performance against key access and inclusion criteria. It also provides valuable information on how to progress.
  • The Comprehensive Self-Assessment is included in AND membership. You can comprehensively self-assess your organisation’s maturity on the journey towards disability confidence, get a score out of 100 and share with your colleagues across the organisation to develop your plan for progress.
  • Following completion of the Comprehensive Self-Assessment, an Evaluation and Benchmark report will tell you how your organisation is performing relative to others and help you to direct your effort to maximise your impact. It is available in summary or comprehensive format. Comprehensive reports are recommended for first time participants.

Developed and validated with the Centre for Workplace Leadership, the Access and Inclusion Index weights both key areas and questions based on relative importance to produce a score out of 100. All participants are assessed using the same weighting system.

The Access and Inclusion Index was created by AND with support of development partners NSW Family and Community Services (FaCS), National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), IBM, Westpac Group and Department of Defence.

Organisations interested in participating in the Index are encouraged to register for one of our upcoming information session webinars. The webinars will provide comprehensive information about the process of completing the Index, as well as an opportunity to ask any questions they may have. The Index will remain open until Friday 8 of December 2017.
