National Disability Awards
The 2017 National Disability Awards will be held on International Day of People with Disability, Sunday 3 December.
The Awards honour and recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals, teams and organisations that have improved the lives of Australians with disability and contributed to increased recognition of equality and human rights for all Australians.
The Australian Network on Disability (AND) is delighted to see some of our members named as finalists. Congratulations go to:
- Platinum member, Compass Group for their comprehensive program to support the successful transition of new employees with disability into employment;
- Gold member ANZ Bank, for strong progress in its goal to build an accessible and inclusive bank and be known as an employer of choice for people with disability;
- Gold member, The University of Sydney for their ‘uni 2 beyond’ initiative that supports people with intellectual disability to experience university life at the University of Sydney;
- And, 2017 AND Conference speaker Catia Malaquias for her advocacy work to ensure people with disability have equal access to educational opportunities, as well as representation in the media.
The Hon. Jane Prentice, Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, who made the announcement, said this year’s finalists are focused on workplace diversity, inclusive education, accessible communities, advocacy and innovation.
“From a social enterprise combining 3D printing with human-centred design to a bank creating an inclusive employment environment, all our finalists are helping to break down barriers for Australians with disability and I commend them for that.”
“This year, we received 145 nominations across five categories. An independent judging panel made up of disability sector and subject matter experts had the difficult job of selecting the top 12 finalists,” said Mrs Prentice.
