AND submission to government seeks to increase employment of people with disability

Mon 18 March 2013

Australian Network on Disability has submitted a formal paper in response to Minister Shorten's discussion paper released  in December 2012, which sought consultation on proposals to boost employment participation for people with disability.

Minister Shorten's discussion paper, Improving Employment Participation of People with Disability, sought public views on how to best achieve reform, including:

• Improving equality for people with disability in employment and in the workplace

• Promoting among employers the elimination of discrimination on the basis of a person’s disability

• Improving the productivity and competitiveness of Australian business through the advancement of people with disability in the workplace

AND has now submitted a formal response to Minister Shorten's discussion paper. The views in our submission paper were framed in consultation with our Board members and our member organisations, who were consulted in meeting sessions in Sydney and Melbourne, and in an online member survey. The views of 30 employer organisations are represented in our submission paper, including government departments, major private corporations, recruitment organisations and universities.
