COVID-19 Discussion Forums

Over the past month we have heard from many of you regarding the changes that your organisations have had to make in response to COVID-19. Individuals and organisations are adapting – shifting to remote work arrangements, altering typical work environments and practices – and these sudden and necessary changes can present a range of challenges, and opportunities, especially for people with disability.

Australian Network on Disability is here to support you and your employees during this personally and professionally challenging time. We would like to invite you to our members only series of Discussion Forums: Responding to COVID-19.

The Discussion Forums will bring us together to share and explore solutions to support all customers and employees.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Session 1: Supporting employees with disability through new ways of working

  • Date: Thursday 16 April 2020
  • Time: 1:30pm to 2:30pm

For many organisations the pandemic has seen significant changes in how, when, and where their employees work. The sudden shift to remote or flexible working arrangements and the need for physical distancing to protect colleagues and customers is presenting opportunities and challenges, especially those with disability.

Suzanne Colbert, AND CEO, will facilitate the discussion on effective practices to support employees with disability during this time. Come join the conversation with Keri Le Page, IBM, Liz Parkinson, Victorian Public Sector Commission, and Kate Halpin and Nick Giustino from Specialisterne Australia.

Session 2: Staying connected – inclusive working from home practices and supporting mental health and wellbeing

  • Date: Tuesday 21 April 2020
  • Time: 11:00am to 12:00pm

The uncertainty and fear surrounding the current global pandemic, along with the sudden shift to working from home, will affect people differently. Increased isolation and more distractions can impact a person’s mental health and wellbeing. How can employers promote psychologically safe workspaces in this current way of working?

Hear from Sanne Rasmussen, from Neami National, a community-based organisation providing services to improve mental health and wellbeing. Sanne brings 13 years of experience working in the Mental Health field to the conversation. Joining Sanne will be John Gerloff, IAG, who, with over a decade’s worth of experience managing projects and teams, will be sharing his insights from his recent role as a Stepping Into internship supervisor.

Session 3: Practical tips on accessible and inclusive communications

  • Date: Thursday 23 April 2020
  • Time: 11:00am to 12:00pm

The pandemic has highlighted the importance of effective communication with our teams and increased our use of technology platforms to remain connected. Come listen, learn, and ask questions about ways to communicate inclusively with your employees and customers with disability.

Samantha Dancey, AND, facilitates a conversation with members and subject matter experts around inclusive communication practices.

Session 4: Creating inclusive and accessible customer experiences

  • Date: Wednesday 29 April 2020
  • Time: 11:00am to 12:00pm
  • RSVP: Registrations closed.

Businesses shifting from onsite to online or changing the physical environment of your stores and offices to ensure the health and safety of staff can all present unintended barriers for your customers with disability.

Hear from your respected peers as we discuss innovative and  inclusive practices to ensure that customers with disability are not left behind.

All Discussion Forums were recorded and are available on the Members Only section of our website following the session.
