Felicity Hand, Deputy Secretary, Dept Social Services
Felicity Hand has been Deputy Secretary, Disabilities and Housing Stream, in the Department of Social Services, since March 2014.
Previously she was a Deputy Secretary and the Chief Operating Officer.
Felicity Hand commenced as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) in February 2012. Prior to taking up this position Felicity has held corporate and capability Deputy Secretary roles at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Felicity started her Australian Public Service (APS) career as a graduate policy officer with DFAT. Following two overseas postings to Vietnam and Indonesia, Felicity left for the private sector, joining BHP in 1996 where she held senior external affairs and public policy management roles. In 1999 Felicity left BHP, moving to Telstra subsidiary, Sensis, to become General Manager Corporate Affairs and a member of its Executive Leadership Team.
In 2006 Felicity rejoined the APS as First Assistant Secretary, Corporate Management Division, DFAT. She was promoted to Deputy Secretary, Client and Corporate Services, Department of Immigration and Citizenship in 2009.
Felicity’s responsibilities include disability and carers, disability employment services, housing and homelessness, problem gambling, mental health and the National Disability Insurance Scheme Policy Taskforce.
She chairs the Assurance, Audit and Risk Committee and is also our Department’s Disability Champion.
